Air quality plays a critical role in human health and the environment. We can influence air quality in several ways, including how we travel. Avenues in Motion has several programs for various age ranges to learn about air quality and what we can do to reduce air pollution.
Our Walk or Bike to School Days encourage elementary school students to use active transportation. Students can see how walking, biking, and anti-idling influence air quality in real-time by using our air quality monitor when they arrive at school. They will also learn pedestrian and road safety tips to ensure a reliable and fun trip. For more information or to schedule a program, contact Melissa McCutcheon here.
Our in-class Air Quality and Transportation Activity for middle schoolers explores multiple modes of transportation (walking, public transit, carpooling, and single-occupancy vehicles) and their impacts on air quality. Through hypothesis creation, hands-on data collection with our air quality monitor, and guided group discussions, 6-8th grade students will learn how air quality and transportation are connected and how they can reduce air pollution in their daily lives.
