Position Description

Avenues in Motion, a community-based nonprofit organization serving northwest New Jersey, is hiring a temporary, full-time Program Specialist to join our dynamic team. Avenues in Motion delivers programs that improve the mobility, the environment and overall quality of life in northwest New Jersey.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering and supporting various Avenues in Motion programs to advance the accessibility, safety, and environmental goals of the organization. This includes development of marketing and outreach materials, digital content, as well as administrative and general program support. The ideal candidate combines an interest in communications and outreach with a passion for mission-driven work.

The Program Specialist will work in tandem with other staff members to ensure effective coverage, delivery, and reporting of the organization’s various programs and activities.

This is a hybrid remote position offering a flexible work schedule. It is considered a 1-year temporary full-time position with the potential to become permanent based on available grant funding. Paid in-person weekend work is expected occasionally for this position. Full benefits including healthcare, vision, dental, retirement contributions and paid time off will be provided following a 90-day grace period. The Program Specialist must reside in New Jersey and have reasonable access to the Avenues in Motion service area.

Anticipated salary for this position is $50,000 – $55,000 and is based upon qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

    • Support the organization’s marketing and social media activities, including content development for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, and YouTube, along with a monthly email newsletter
    • As needed, distribute traffic alerts, construction notices, and air quality alerts to distribution lists via MailChimp
    • Conduct outreach and engagement with various audiences to encourage safer behaviors and the use of transportation modes other than driving alone
    • Develop digital and print materials to help program promotion and delivery using Canva and/or Adobe platforms
    • Collect, analyze, and report on website, email, and social media engagement data to include in reports for funding agencies
    • Support bike safety events and other Avenues in Motion school and community programming
    • Represent the organization at events such as fairs and festivals
    • Report on activity and share data outcomes, coordinate with partners, vendors, and advertising platforms as needed
    • Work collaboratively with other staff to deliver effective programs

Basic Qualifications

    • BA or BS degree
    • Strong writing, communications, and time management skills with attention to detail and an eye for effective graphic design
    • This is a hybrid remote work environment, but the position requires participation in in-person organization and community events as well as regular staff meetings
    • Valid NJ Driver’s License and car available for travel.

Preferred Skills & Experience

    • 1-3 years of marketing, social media management, or other communications experience
    • Flexibility to handle multiple priorities and ability to work quickly and efficiently
    • Understanding of human behavior dynamics and effective behavior change campaigns
    • Experience communicating with and to various age groups
    • Ability to provide insight and opportunities for improvement
    • Passion for transportation safety and mobility issues
